I looked at the horizon,
Waiting patiently for that sight,
For a shadow to appear over the line,
For the one that would make things right.
I waited for you to come get me,
To tell me it’s all ok,
That after all the trials and doubts,
Our love would see another day.
I waited for you to come find me,
Amidst the darkness of my confusion,
Set aside all my fears and doubts,
Create hope and not just an illusion.
I thought you would come get me,
Like you’ve done once before,
I thought you knew you had to find me,
To keep me close, to never let go.
I waited and watched the horizon,
I waited and prayed you would know,
Me trapped inside me, calling to you …unheard,
I waited while I let my tears flow.
I believed our love was stronger,
I believed you would understand,
I believed while the world thought otherwise,
You would know, you would find me, you would hold my hand.
I waited and watched the horizon,
The sun sets on my weary hope while I sigh,
I thought I saw a shadow through my bleary eyes,
Only to see a lone flame stir, flicker and then die.
As darkness darker than my soul closed in on me,
I realized that this was how it would stay,
It was time to give up and stop wishing,
Time to look the other way.
I stood up and wiped away my tears,
Hoping fervently that they were the last to desert my eyes,
As the horizon stood empty, screaming, telling that no one would come,
I turned…looking back no more... I said my final goodbye.
